On Large Local Error Accumulation in Multilevel Error Diffusion
نویسندگان
چکیده
Error diffusion is an often used method that transforms a continuous tone (multibit) image into an image of lower bit depth, most commonly into a binary output of black and white. The simplicity of the processing and the quality of the output have made error diffusion a frequently used tool. Part of the image quality is attributed to the minimization of quantization errors in the error-diffusion process. This article describes local instabilities in a color multilevel error-diffusion system that—in contrast—can lead to large local errors in the output, far exceeding the normally expected quantization errors. This can have serious negative effects specifically in connection with the design and incorporation of color calibration sheets. c © 2016 Society for Imaging Science and

Multilevel halftoning using multiscale error diffusion
The advance in printing technology makes multilevel halftoning become important as printers can now print inks of different intensities. This letter presents a multilevel halftoning algorithm that is based on multiscale error diffusion. This algorithm takes care of the constrained pixels before handling the unconstrained pixels and diffuses errors with a non-causal filter such that halftones of...
متن کاملHalftone Quality Evaluation Using Color Visual Models
We conducted a monitor-based subjective study on multilevel halftone. Observers in a halftone preference experiment selected stimuli in a paired comparison design. Images were halftoned using multilevel stochastic screening and multilevel error diffusion. Stimuli were presented on a calibrated monitor from distances equivalent to viewing 300 and 600 dpi prints. We applied Thurstone's law of com...
متن کاملThe Sustained Influence of an Error on Future Decision-Making
Post-error slowing (PES) is consistently observed in decision-making tasks after negative feedback. Yet, findings are inconclusive as to whether PES supports performance accuracy. We addressed the role of PES by employing drift diffusion modeling which enabled us to investigate latent processes of reaction times and accuracy on a large-scale dataset (>5,800 participants) of a visual search expe...
متن کاملA Comparison of Error Indicators for Multilevel Visualization on Nested Grids
Multiresolution visualization methods have recently become an indispensable ingredient of real time interactive post processing. Here local error indicators serve as criteria where to reene the data representation on the physical domain. In this article we give an overview on diierent types of error measurement on nested grids and compare them for selected applications in 2D as well as in 3D. F...
متن کاملA posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$-error estimates with the new version of streamline diffusion method for the wave equation
In this article, we study the new streamline diffusion finite element for treating the linear second order hyperbolic initial-boundary value problem. We prove a posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$ and error estimates for this method under minimal regularity hypothesis. Test problem of an application of the wave equation in the laser is presented to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the method.
